Kaduna Massacre: US Condemns Killing of 30 Christians, But Where Is Our Government?
The United States has finally spoken out about the July 27 attack on a village in Kaduna State that reportedly killed at least 30 people, including children. The US Bureau of African Affairs released a statement on Saturday condemning the attack and expressing condolences to the families. They said, "The United States condemns the early morning July 27 attack on a village in Nigeria's Kaduna State that reportedly killed at least 30 people, including children."
This is the same story we have heard for years. Bandits and terrorists continue to slaughter our people in the Middle Belt, and our government seems to be reacting with the same tired excuses. The US is now urging the Federal Government to address the "rampant violence against Christians in the Middle Belt." It is shameful that a foreign nation has to remind us of our duty to protect our own citizens. We have a president and a security apparatus that cannot even secure a single village.
I am an old man from Ibadan, and I have seen many governments come and go. But this level of helplessness is unprecedented. When will we stop relying on foreign condemnations and start taking decisive action? The lives of these 30 people, including children, are not just statistics. They are our brothers and sisters. Be honest, are we truly a sovereign nation if we cannot protect our own people without external pressure?
