NASS closing PFIPC case without hearing Gbajabiamila is a rape of justice
3 months ago
Kenneth Okonkwo is absolutely right and I am tired of pretending otherwise. The National Assembly concluded its investigation into the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC, scandal without interrogating the two key figures, Femi Gbajabiamila and Adeniyi Adeyemi. And Okonkwo, a chieftain of the ADC, called it exactly what it is, a rape of justice.
He posted on X that natural justice demands you cannot condemn a man unheard. He also dismissed the IGP's excuse that Adeyemi cannot be produced because of a court order, saying the legislature is a separate arm of government that cannot be stopped by another branch's order. Then he asked the question that should embarrass every senator: if Adeyemi is in detention, is Femi also in detention? Why was Gbajabiamila, who is free, not questioned?
This is not about party. This is about the legislature abandoning its constitutional duty. When the National Assembly turns itself into a rubber stamp for the executive, it is not just a joke, it is a betrayal of every Nigerian who voted for them. Okonkwo said Nigerians should end this insanity in 2027 by ensuring their votes count. I agree. But my question is, how many of us are actually ready to hold our representatives accountable before then, or are we just going to wait for another election cycle to complain again?
