My wife's phone autocorrected 'prayer' to 'player' and I almost lost my faith
3 months ago
Sunday morning, my wife sends me a text from the kitchen while I'm getting ready for service. She wrote, "Babe, remember to pray for the youth program today." But autocorrect did its thing and it came through as "Babe, remember to player for the youth program today."
I read it, scratched my head, and replied, "Player? Since when did I become a baller? You want me to dribble the devil or what?" She laughed so hard she nearly dropped the pot of stew she was stirring. We spent the next five minutes sending each other ridiculous autocorrect fails from our group chats. One of my church members once texted "I'm coming to the altar for deliverance" and it read "I'm coming to the altar for liver damage."
The thing about life is, these small mistakes are the moments that keep a marriage alive. In my counseling experience, couples forget to laugh together. They focus on the big issues, the money, the in-laws, the infidelity, and they forget that joy is the glue. Our people say, "A child that laughs with you will cry with you," but that's not the point. The point is, if you can't laugh at a typo with your spouse, how will you survive the real storms? I told my wife, "Nwanne, if I ever become a player, you'll know because my game will be weak." She said, "Your game is already weak, that's why I married you." Kai! I have seen things, but I still thank God for this woman. She keeps me human.
