Na so my generator cost me my job interview
3 months ago
Last week I had a final round interview for a big contract. The kind that pays in dollars. I did everything right. Charged my laptop, hotspot full, sat in my room in VI at 8:55am. Interview was 9am.
Then NEPA took light at 8:58. My inverter battery was at 40%. By 9:15, my laptop started beeping low battery. I had to choose between ending the call and telling the interviewer I'll call back, or letting it die mid-sentence. I ended the call. By the time I found a friend's place with a generator, it was 10:30. They had moved on.
I sat down and calculated how much that one hour cost me. The contract was worth roughly $3,000 a month. That's about ₦4 million at current rates. All because NEPA couldn't give me 45 minutes of steady light during a job interview.
My guys will say I should have gotten a better inverter. True. But the real question is, how many opportunities have we lost in this country not because we're not good enough, but because the basic infrastructure is a gamble? I'm not even angry anymore. I'm just tired.
