I ran the numbers on my salary and nearly cried. Working remote in Lagos is not the flex people think.

My guys, I finally did something I have been avoiding for months. I sat down and calculated my actual hourly rate as a remote worker in Lagos. The numbers are not funny.
On paper, I earn in dollars. My mum thinks I am doing well, and technically I am. But when you factor in the generator fuel, the data bundles, the inverter maintenance, and the fact that NEPA has taken light four times since I started typing this, the real hourly rate drops by almost a third. I am not even talking about the days I have to go to a coworking space because the noise from the street makes it impossible to focus.
E be like say we are all just working to keep the system running. Generator people, data providers, fuel sellers, they are the real winners. I ran the calculation and it showed me something else. The flex is not earning in dollars, the flex is having a stable power supply and a quiet street. Anybody else ever break down their actual cost of working from home in Lagos?
