The day my siblings stopped talking to me over a land deal in Ibadan

Last year, I convinced my three siblings to put money together to buy a plot of land in Ibadan for our mother. I had found this developer, smooth talker, showed us documents, even took us to the site. My brother Tunde was sceptical from the start but I pressured him, said we needed to secure our mother's future. We paid him the full amount, about ₦8.5 million, and he gave us receipts and a deed. Two months later, his phone stopped ringing. We went to the site, another man was there, said he owned the land. Our documents were fake. The money gone. My siblings, they didn't shout, they just stopped calling me. For six months, nobody in my family spoke to me. My mother, God bless her, she was the one who called me one day and said, 'Bose, we are family. Money lost, but family wey remain, that one no dey lost.' That broke me more than the scam. I cried like a baby. We are okay now, but I learnt my lesson: never mix family money with business, and always verify land documents at the ministry, not just trust a sweet mouth. Na wa oh.
