The Night Armed Robbers Collected My Phone in Warri and I Thanked Them for My Life

This happened last year, around August. I was 31, working as a sales rep for a beverage company in Warri, and I had closed late from a meeting in Effurun. I was driving my small Toyota Corolla, the one I had just finished paying for, and I was happy that at least the car was finally mine. I stopped at a junction near Deco Road to buy pure water. Before I could even roll down my window fully, I saw two men appear from the dark. One of them had a long knife, and the other was holding what looked like a cutlass. The one with the knife tapped my window and said, 'Oga, come down. We no want trouble.' Omo, my heart just dropped. I looked at the road and it was empty. Nobody was coming. I did the only thing I could think of: I opened the door slowly and stepped out. They collected my phone, my wallet with 18,000 naira, and even my wedding ring. I had just bought that ring for my wife's birthday, and I had not even given it to her yet. They told me to lie down on the ground and not look up. I lay there for what felt like hours, praying silently. When I finally got up, they were gone. I drove home shaking. My wife saw my face and started crying before I even said a word. I learned something that day. No amount of money or property is worth your life. Since then, I never stop at lonely junctions at night, and I always keep my doors locked and windows up. The ring, I replaced it. But the fear, that one still dey with me. God dey. But fear dey too.
