So the so-called "leader" of a syndicate that allegedly wiped N1bn worth of exotic cars from Lagos dealers has finally been caught, but 13 luxury vehicles worth over N500m are still missing. Meanwhile, the police are asking dealers to "verify buyers" , as if that's news to anyone who's been in this market for five minutes. If these dealers can't smell a post-dated cheque scam from a mile away, maybe the real fraud is the way we keep doing business on trust in a country where trust is the most expensive commodity. Who's really the bigger fool here: the thief who got caught, or the dealers who keep handing over keys without doing their homework?
