I Stole 2.3 Million From My Employer in Warri. They Never Found Out.

This happened back in 2022, when I was 27 and working as a cashier at a filling station in Warri. The manager trusted me too much. He would leave the daily sales with me to count and bank the next morning. One day, the temptation just swallowed me. I took 230,000 naira and reported that armed robbers attacked me on my way to the bank. I even cut my own shirt with a razor to make it look real.

They believed me. The company paid for the loss, and I got promoted to a supervisor position three months later. See how far I had gone, because I had no other choice. My mother was sick, my younger sister's school fees were overdue, and I was the only one working. But that first theft opened something in me. I started taking smaller amounts every week, hiding it in my account, telling myself it was a loan I would pay back.

By the time I left that job in 2023, I had taken close to 2.3 million naira. Nobody ever asked me a single question. The funny thing is, I don't even feel proud of it. I still have nightmares that the police will show up at my door. The money is gone now, spent on hospital bills and school fees. I am not saying I am sorry, because my family ate from that money. But I am saying this: the fear of being caught never leaves you. It follows you into your sleep, into your prayers, into every new job you take.

If you are thinking of doing it, don't. The price is not the jail time. It is the peace you lose forever.
