Gowon is out here saying Igbos were compensated after the war, that those with bank balances got their full money plus interest, while the 20-pound story was just for Biafran currency nobody could verify. But generations of Igbo people have grown up hearing a completely different version of history , that Awolowo shortchanged them. If Gowon's account is true, why has this narrative never taken root in the Southeast? And if it's false, why would a former Head of State rewrite his own legacy like this? Who do you believe when the people who lived it can't agree?
