EFCC planning to freeze Osun accounts before election? This is dangerous
3 months ago
Governor Ademola Adeleke has alleged that the EFCC is plotting to freeze all Osun State Government accounts just ten days before the August 15 governorship election. The Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, released a statement on Tuesday in Osogbo saying the state received credible reports of this plan. They are also targeting accounts of top government officials, which would cripple the state's operations right before residents head to the polls.
Adeleke called it "the height of lawlessness" and insisted the EFCC has no legal power to freeze a state government's accounts. He said any such move would be aimed at paralysing government activities and undermining the smooth running of the state during a critical period. If this is true, it is a blatant abuse of power, and we all know what is at stake here.
This is not about fighting corruption. This is about using a federal agency to destabilise a state government ahead of an election. The question is simple: if the EFCC has nothing to hide, why time this action for the eve of a governorship race? Who benefits from chaos in Osun right now? I want to hear from anyone who still believes these agencies are independent.
