Back in 2018, I was a 200-level student in FUTO, fresh from the village and still holding unto my mother's prayers like a charm. I was 19, skinny, and the only thing I knew about women was from Nollywood films. Then I met Mrs. Ngozi at a cyber cafe around Ihiagwa. She was 28, married, and always came to print documents for her husband's business. I was just the boy who helped her fix the printer when it jammed. Omo, the way she looked at me the first time. It was not a motherly look. I was too naive to understand it then, but my body knew. She started calling me 'my small engineer' and would bring me fried plantain wrapped in newspaper. One evening, she asked me to help her carry her phone to a repair shop in town. Before I knew what was happening, we were in her hostel room in Umuchima. The door locked behind me. I cannot tell una everything that happened that night, but I left that room a different person. She paid me 5,000 naira and said 'thank you, baby.' I was ashamed and excited at the same time. For the next eight months, I was her secret. She taught me things I did not know a human body could do. I stopped going to lectures. My GPA dropped from 4.2 to 2.8. My friends thought I was just dey enjoy. Then her husband found out. He did not catch us, but he saw the messages. She called me one night, crying, telling me to delete everything and never call her again. I never saw her after that. But to this day, when I smell certain perfume, my heart still jumps. I am 27 now, and I have never been able to have a normal relationship with a woman my age. I keep comparing them to her. That is the price of that freedom. The lesson? Be careful what you learn in secret. Some lessons come with interest you cannot repay.
