My mum thinks working from home means I'm unemployed. The interview was a whole new dimension.

My mother called me this morning to ask if I had "gone to the office" today. I told her I was in a meeting on Zoom. She said, "Ah, so you dey do that online work again? When you go find real job?" I just laughed. The woman has seen me pay her rent, buy her a new generator, and send her money every month for two years. But because I wear t-shirt and boxers to work, I am unemployed in her eyes.
Last week she came to visit and walked in on me mid-call with my US team. She heard me speaking English and just stood there shaking her head. After the call, she asked if the white people knew I was not actually working. I tried to explain the concept of remote work and she said, "So they pay you to sit at home? Na scam." She genuinely believes I am part of a Yahoo boys network that uses laptops instead of juju.
I have stopped arguing. Let her think I am a professional internet fraudster. At least she is proud of me now. She even told our neighbour that I "do computer work" and the neighbour asked if I can help her son hack a betting app. I am just here calculating how many more years this misunderstanding will last. Ehn, any other remote worker dealing with this family confusion?
