Nigerian parents will shame you for not having a job but also block every opportunity you find

My mum spent 3 hours yesterday telling me I'm wasting my life because I'm not earning. This morning, a brand I've been chasing finally said yes to a campaign. I'm screaming with joy, she hears me, comes to my room. First question: 'Na which job? The one where dem go use you and dump you?' Then she starts praying against 'fake opportunities.' I'm standing there with a signed contract and she's casting out demons from my laptop.

Like make it make sense. They want you to have money but they don't trust any path that leads to it. If I say I'm applying to a bank, she says 'those people are fraudsters.' If I say I'm doing freelance, she says 'that one na scam.' If I say I'm starting a business, she says 'you don't even have capital, abeg sit down.'

The only job they'd approve of is one that falls from heaven directly into my account with a letter from God himself. And even then she'd ask if I prayed about it first. Shey your own parents dey do this too or na only my mum?
