Adeleke vs Oyetola: 60 Accord Party members arrested and taken to Abuja
3 months ago
Governor Ademola Adeleke has accused his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola, of orchestrating a campaign of intimidation against Accord Party members ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State. In a statement posted on X yesterday, Adeleke claimed that over 60 Accord Party members have been arrested and taken to Abuja, where they are being detained without any formal charges.
He said, "You are aware of constant police raids and arrest of Accord leaders for no reason and without any warrant of arrest. Several Accord members have been killed and 60 Accord members have been arrested and taken to Abuja and detained without any charges." Adeleke further alleged that these actions were carried out on Oyetola's orders because his candidate cannot win the election.
This is coming amid the freezing of Osun State government bank accounts by the EFCC, which many see as another layer of federal pressure. Adeleke warned that this is a threat to our democracy, saying, "We are supposed to be in a democracy where the rule of law must always prevail." The question is, how far will federal agencies go to tilt an election? And when will the EFCC explain why state funds are frozen without a court order?
