Adeleke don carry EFCC go court, N2bn damages for frozen Osun account
3 months ago
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State don finally fire back at EFCC. He file N2 billion lawsuit against the commission over the freezing of Osun State Federal Statutory Allocation Account. The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1762/2026, dey at Federal High Court in Abuja, and e list the EFCC, its Chairman, and First Bank of Nigeria Limited as defendants.
According to the court documents, Adeleke dey ask the court to decide whether EFCC get any legal power to freeze the state allocation account without first obtaining a court order. The governor argue say the action violate the Constitution, the EFCC Establishment Act, and the Money Laundering Act, and say due process no follow before dem freeze the account. The plaintiffs also dey argue say the directive to First Bank to freeze the account na unlawful suppression of Osun State Government powers, a threat to the state financial autonomy.
This one na serious matter. Adeleke dey demand the court declare the freezing unlawful and unconstitutional, order First Bank to immediately remove all restrictions, and also ask for N2 billion as exemplary and aggravated damages for what e call unlawful interference with public funds. No hearing date don set yet. But the question wey dey my mind be say, if EFCC no need court order before e go freeze state account, then which state go safe? Una think say this case go set precedent for other governors wey dey suffer same wahala?
