Tinubu tells EFCC to unfreeze Osun accounts, calls timing embarrassing

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the EFCC to go back to court and vacate the order freezing Osun State Government accounts. He said the timing, just days before the governorship election, is embarrassing and could look like federal interference.

Tinubu said in a statement on Thursday, "I feel deeply embarrassed not by the EFCC's exercise of its mandate under a court order, but by the timing of the action." He also directed the anti-graft agency to discontinue all related actions on the frozen accounts. This comes less than a day after the EFCC defended the freezing, saying it was investigating alleged fraudulent handling of about N11 billion in Ecology Funds and FAAC allocations.

The EFCC had claimed it noticed "precipitate and unwarranted" movement of public funds into corporate entities starting August 2. Now Tinubu is saying the agency should back off, which is rare for him. The question is whether this is genuine concern for electoral credibility or just political damage control.
