Japa is not the answer, staying and building is. Fight me.

I was in the market yesterday and I heard two women arguing about their children abroad. One was saying her daughter in Canada is living fine, sending money home. The other one said her son in Lagos just bought a car and is doing well. And I just stood there thinking, why do we act like leaving Nigeria is the only way to succeed?
Look at it this way. The people who are building real things in this country are the ones who stayed. I am not saying japa is bad, if God opens the door for you, go. But this mentality that once you cross the border everything will be fine, that one is a lie. I have seen people who went abroad and are working three jobs, sleeping in shared rooms, sending home money they don't even have. Meanwhile the ones we call 'village people' are the ones opening shops, building houses, raising families here. E get why some people will argue with me, but I stand on this.
Our people say the grass is always greener on the other side, but nobody tells you that the other side has its own snakes. I am not saying it is easy here, I know the dollar is almost 1400 naira now and things are hard. But we have to stop telling our young ones that success only exists outside. Some of us are doing fine right here in Enugu, in Lagos, in Port Harcourt. The question is, if everybody leaves, who will build the Nigeria we say we love?
