PDP says Tinubu turned Nigeria into full authoritarian state, and honestly they may have a point
3 months ago
The PDP has officially declared that Nigeria is now a “full authoritarian state” under President Bola Tinubu, and the statement from their National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong is making rounds this Saturday. They are basing this on a Human Rights Foundation report that classified Nigeria as fully authoritarian on their Tyranny Tracker platform, and the PDP is saying this is just the global confirmation of what we have been living with.
Ememobong listed the usual suspects: the faulty electoral process, no protection for dissent, erosion of democratic safeguards, and the collapse of checks and balances. He even called out the National Assembly for failing to hold the executive accountable, noting that an administration that failed to execute the Appropriation Act for three years is getting commendation instead of condemnation. That part alone should make every Nigerian ask what our lawmakers are actually doing.
The PDP also mentioned the recent media attacks on Cardinal Onaiyekan and the Catholic Bishops Conference, saying it shows there is no freedom of speech under this administration. Whether you support PDP or not, the question is simple: do we still have a functioning democracy in Nigeria, or are we just going through the motions until 2027?
