I Inflated Invoices at My Ibadan Job for Two Years. I Am Not Sorry.

Back in 2022, I was 27 and working as a procurement officer for a logistics company in Ibadan. Salary was 85k, rent was eating me alive, and my mother's hospital bills were piling up. I started small. A supplier I knew would add 5k to every invoice, we'd split it. At first, it was just to cover transport money. But before I knew it, I was doing it every week. 10k here, 15k there. I told myself it was compensation for the overtime they never paid me. I even started a side business selling phone accessories with the extra money. My colleagues would ask how I was managing, and I'd just say 'God is good.' Omo, God was not the one signing those invoices. The day it almost collapsed, my MD called me in for a random audit. I stood there sweating while he flipped through my files. He didn't find anything, but that fear stayed with me for months. I started sleeping badly, checking my bank account every hour. I resigned last year and moved to another company. Nobody ever caught me. But I still look back and wonder if the price was worth it. I paid my mother's bills, but I lost my peace. If you're thinking of doing it, just know the money comes with a shadow that follows you everywhere. I am not sorry for what I did, but I will never do it again.
