Landlord don change my lock for no reason, wetin I go do?

My brother, I just dey come from court when I see this message from my tenant for one of my properties for Ikeja. The guy dey cry say the landlord of the house where he dey stay don change the lock for the gate and im no even get notice. Just because the man say im want increase rent from 500k to 800k for one year and the guy say make dem talk small. Na so the landlord just give am 48 hours to pack out.

See ehn, in the eyes of the court, that one na illegal eviction. You get right to stay for the property until the court say make you leave. The landlord no get power to just change lock like that. Section 33 of the Lagos State Tenancy Law say the landlord must give proper notice before any eviction, and if you don't agree on rent increase, the matter go to court. You no go just pack out because somebody change lock.

I tell the guy say make he go to the nearest police station and report, but e no go reach anywhere if the police no serious. The better thing na to file a complaint for the Rent Tribunal for Ikeja. Na small money, and the case go hear fast fast. The guy still dey ask me if e go fit recover the money wey im don pay for the year. I say yes, if the landlord no follow the law, the court go order am to refund or continue the tenancy. The thing pain me because plenty people no know their rights and them dey suffer for nothing.
