Japa is just expensive suffering, I don't get the hype

See ehn, I've watched three of my boys pack their lives into two suitcases and head to Canada and UK. One is driving Uber in Toronto at 2am, the other is doing care work in Manchester. They post the nice flats and the clean roads but when we talk on the phone, I hear it. The loneliness. The 4am shifts. The fact that they eat noodles more than they did in Akure.
Meanwhile I'm here in Yaba, drinking my zobo from the mama put down the street, working from my laptop when I want, and my rent is painful but at least I can see my people on Sundays. Nobody is saying Nigeria is easy. But this idea that japa is automatic success? That's the biggest scam of this generation. You're just trading one wahala for another wahala with a different accent.
I'm not saying stay if you have a solid offer. I'm saying think well before you join the rush. The grass is not always greener, sometimes it's just painted. Who here has actually japa'd and come back to Nigeria, or is it only the ones still there that dey talk?
