So the NDLEA is crying about food shortage because farmers are ditching yam and cassava for cannabis. Nobody is asking the real question: when did farming food ever pay the bills in this country? These farmers are not stupid , they saw where the money dey and they followed it. But now we're looking at a future where we go dey import garri while our own soil produces weed for export. The same government that can't secure farmlands or provide fertilizer is now surprised that people turned to the crop that doesn't get attacked by bandits. If the economy was working for food farmers, would anyone risk planting cannabis and dealing with kidnappers and cultists? So tell me, if you had a plot of land in Edo today, which one you go plant , yam or weed?
