Davido begs Trump to watch Osun election, says no bloodshed

Nigerian singer Davido has called on United States President Donald Trump and the international community to pay close attention to Saturday's Osun State governorship election. In a post on his X account yesterday, the singer, who is a nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, expressed growing concern about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process in the state.

Davido wrote, "Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear. I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure every voter is protected and every vote is respected. We no want bloodshed. We no want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election. @realDonaldTrump."

This appeal comes after the EFCC froze Osun State government accounts, citing suspicious money movements since 2 August. President Tinubu has since ordered the EFCC to vacate the court order, saying he felt "deeply embarrassed" by the timing, while Governor Adeleke has sued the EFCC for 2 billion naira. Is it right for an artist to drag a foreign president into our local election matters, or is this the kind of international attention we need?
