We Were Just Friends in Ilorin. Then One Night Changed Everything and We Never Spoke Again.

Back in 2022, I was 27, serving in Ilorin, and Bisi was my colleague at the bank. We called it 'just talking' , lunch breaks, late night WhatsApp, the way you do when you're lonely in a new city. Everyone thought we were dating, but we had a pact: no feelings, no labels, just vibes. I even told myself I was too focused on my career to catch feelings. One Friday, after work drinks at a spot in GRA, she missed her last bus. I offered my place, swore it was just to be safe. But somewhere between the second bottle of wine and her laughing at my terrible Yoruba, the line we'd been dancing on just disappeared. That night, we crossed it. And in the morning, we both pretended it was nothing. For three months, we kept doing it. I'd pick her up, we'd 'study' together, and then we'd end up in my bed. I knew it was more than 'just friends' when I started getting jealous if she mentioned other guys. But neither of us said a word. Then she got a transfer to Abuja, and we just... stopped. No goodbye, no closure. Just silence. Omo, I still think about her. Not because I want her back, but because I learned that when you label something 'nothing', you give yourself permission to ignore what it really is. The thing you're afraid to name is the thing that will haunt you. If you're in a situationship, either call it what it is or walk away. Because 'just talking' is the biggest lie we tell ourselves.
