I met my first landlord at court today. 20 years later, he's the one in trouble.

I dey court today when I see one man wey I know since 2005. He was my first landlord for Agege. The man wey collect my rent plus 'development fee' every year, wey increase my rent anytime he like, wey threaten to pack my things outside if I talk. Today, he dey sit for defendant side. His own tenant don drag am to court for illegal eviction and collecting double rent.
See ehn, I just sit there and watch the proceedings. The same man wey dey talk say 'the law is for those who can afford it' now dey beg the judge for mercy. His lawyer dey talk about hardship, how the economy bad, how he don't get money. The tenant, a young woman wey sell food stuff for Mile 12, get proper lawyer wey don file everything correct. She get receipts, bank transfers, even voice recordings of him threatening her.
I no say anything to him. But as court adjourn, I just look at him and nod small. The law no dey tired, na only the people wey dey try to abuse am dey tire. That day, I remember say justice no be instant, but e dey patient. If you dey suffer for landlord matter, make sure you document everything. The day you go need am, e go save you.
