Imo State University lecturers have packed their bags indefinitely, and the reason cuts deep: their own state government signed an agreement in December, watched other states implement it, but left IMSU in the cold for eight months. Beyond the 2025 welfare deal, these lecturers are still owed promotion arrears from 2016, salaries from months ago, and a shocking 21 months of union dues , while the school sits trapped in the Treasury Single Account, a total kiss of death for university autonomy. The question is simple: if Bauchi, Ekiti, Ogun, Osun and Sokoto can pay their lecturers, why can Imo not , and how long will students keep paying for a government that refuses to honour its own signature?
