I Was 24, He Was My 41-Year-Old Boss. The Night He Cried Changed Everything.

This was back in 2021, right after the lockdown. I was 24, fresh from NYSC, and I had just started working at a small logistics company in Calabar. My boss, Mr. Bassey, was 41, married with two kids. He was the kind of man who always had a kind word for everyone, but for me, it was different. He would call me into his office for things that didn't need two people, ask about my family, my plans. I told myself it was just mentoring. Then one evening, he drove me home after a late shift. He didn't take the main road. He parked near the Marina, and before I knew it, he was telling me how his wife didn't understand him, how I was different. Omo, I knew it was wrong. But the way he looked at me, the way he made me feel like the only woman in the world, it was intoxicating. I let him kiss me. That was the beginning. For six months, we carried on. He would send me money, 45,000 naira here, 30,000 there. He took me to hotels in Calabar, bought me things I couldn't afford. I told myself I was in love. But the real thing was, I was lonely and he was generous. The day his wife found out, she came to the office and slapped me in front of everyone. He just stood there, looking at his shoes. He never said a word to defend me. I was asked to resign. After that, he blocked me everywhere. I lost my job, my reputation, and my peace of mind. It took me two years to get back on my feet. Now, I look back and I see it clearly: I was a young girl who mistook attention for love, and he was a married man who used his power to get what he wanted. My advice to any girl reading this: when a married man says his wife doesn't understand him, run. He is not telling you the truth. He is telling you what you want to hear.
