My daughter asked me why I greet my phone but not her father
3 months ago
So yesterday my 6 year old daughter caught me saying good morning to my phone before I said good morning to her father. She just stood there with that confused face and asked, mummy why do you greet that thing before daddy?
I tried to explain that I was checking if work sent any messages but she wasn't buying it. She said, but daddy is right there. I looked at my husband and he was just nodding like, yes woman, explain yourself. The three of us stood in the kitchen, me holding my phone like it was a holy book, my daughter waiting for an answer, my husband enjoying the moment too much.
From where I sit in Abuja, we have all become slaves to these devices. I remember when we used to greet people with actual voice and eye contact. Now I know my phone's battery percentage more than I know how my husband's day went. The system is slow but it moves eventually, and I think I need to move my phone away from my face. Is your phone also your first love?
