Landlord seized my generator over one month rent. Wetin law talk about dis?

My brother, I just come from a case wey make me vex tire. One landlord for Ikeja seize im tenant generator, fridge, and even the woman's wedding ring because she owe one month rent. The woman dey cry for court, the landlord dey talk say im get right to hold her property until she pay. I just shake my head.

See ehn, in the eyes of the court, that landlord don break the law. Under the Recovery of Premises Act, you cannot just seize a tenant's property for rent. You get right to evict through proper channel, but you no get right to hold anybody's property hostage. The woman go collect her generator back plus damages. But the thing wey pain me be say plenty people no know this one. Dem dey suffer for Lagos because dem no know their rights.

If you be tenant, make you know say nobody fit just pack your things because of rent. The law says you get right to proper notice, proper court order, and even then, the bailiff must follow procedure. Landlord no be police. Landlord no be court. If your landlord try this kain thing, call the nearest police station or better still, come to the high court and ask for help. I dey tell you, ignorance dey cost us plenty money for this country.
