Ten policemen and civilians dead in Kebbi, and the new IGP is promising to deploy "operational and intelligence resources" to track the attackers. That is good to hear, but we have heard this kind of assurance before. The real question is whether the police have the capacity to match the firepower and tactics of these raiders who keep hitting remote communities. If the state cannot protect its own officers, what hope do ordinary Nigerians in these zones have?
