Over 100 imported voters arrested in Osun with new PVCs, Accord Party member confesses

Osun State election day just produced one of the clearest examples of why we cannot trust the process. Over 100 intending voters allegedly imported by an Accord Party member were arrested at the residence of Hon Abiola Ibrahim, who represents Irewole-Isokan Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly. These people were carrying brand new Permanent Voter Cards and were camped at his house, waiting to go and vote for the Accord Party.

In a video clip that is already going viral, security operatives are seen interrogating the group. When questioned, Abiola Ibrahim confessed that the large group of persons were camped at his residence to vote for the Accord Party in the election already kicking off. Let that sink in. A sitting lawmaker openly admits to importing voters on election day. The Osun State Police Command has not responded to requests for comment at press time.

This is the reality of Nigerian elections. We keep talking about electoral reforms and technology, but the manual manipulation continues right under our noses. If this is what happens openly, what else is happening behind closed doors? How many more Abiola Ibrahims are out there today, in Osun and across the country?
