Kenneth Okonkwo says same-faith ticket is unconstitutional, do you agree?

Kenneth Okonkwo, the campaign spokesperson for the ADC and Atiku Abubakar, has thrown a heavy punch at the idea of a same-faith presidential ticket ahead of 2027. He is urging both Christians and Muslims to reject any such arrangement, insisting it goes against the 1999 Constitution. This is a direct response to an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, who openly said he would support another Muslim-Muslim ticket for the APC in 2027.

Okonkwo quoted Sections 14(3), 42, and 15(2)(3)(d) of the Constitution and wrote, "The Same-Faith ticket is a no-no for Nigeria of today." He went further to say the presidency is an association between the President and the Vice, and that association must cut across religious barriers. He added, "Muslims and Christians must be accommodated in the presidency as the President or Vice."

Now here is the thing, the man is not just talking. He is referencing the Constitution directly, and he is calling out what he sees as an attempt by one faith to dominate. Some people will say religion is a personal matter and the best candidate should win regardless of faith. But can we truly have a united Nigeria when the top two positions are occupied by people of the same religion? Be honest, would you vote for a same-faith ticket if your own faith is not represented?
