Davido calls out INEC over Osun result delay, but nobody is surprised

Davido has done what many of us were thinking yesterday when he took to X to ask INEC why no result from the Osun State governorship election had been uploaded to the IReV portal as of 2:33pm. He wrote, "INEC (@inecnigeria ), it is now 2:33 p.m., yet no result has been uploaded to the IReV portal. What is the delay? Nigerians deserve transparency and timely updates."

This is the same pattern we have seen since 2023. The IReV was supposed to end the era of manipulated results, but every election, we are left refreshing the portal while party agents and thugs do their work in the dark. Governor Ademola Adeleke is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform, with 15 parties on the ballot, including Bola Oyebamiji of the APC. Two candidates, Adesina Adeyemi-Doro of APGA and Simon Adewale of APM, withdrew, with Adeyemi-Doro endorsing Oyebamiji and Adewale backing Adeleke.

My question is simple: why must we always beg for what the law already guarantees? If INEC cannot upload results in real time, then what exactly is the commission for? I know some people will say Davido is just an entertainer, but he is a citizen with a voice, and he is saying what every voter in Osun is feeling. How long will we continue to accept this delay as normal?
