My son bought a car he cannot afford. I did not shout. Here is why.

My third son, Tunde, came to the house yesterday with big smile and new key. He said, Baba, I buy car. I looked at the car, fine car, but I know his salary. I know what he earns because he told me last month when he was crying about rent.

I did not shout. I just asked him, my son, this car, how you take am? He said he used his savings and a loan from his friend. I asked him how much remains for food and rent. He said, Baba, God will provide. I looked at him and I remembered myself at his age. I was driving a bicycle to the ministry.

I told him, the Yoruba say, the horse that will carry you should not be the one that will kill you. He laughed. But I saw something in his eyes. This morning, he called me and said he wants to sell the car. I said, why? He said, I calculate it, I cannot breathe. I just said, okay, my son. Patience is the father of wisdom. He will learn. We all learn.
