My landlord just gave me quit notice after 8 years. Do I have any rights?

See ehn, I just dey shake my head. My tenant wey don live for my compound for 8 years just call me say im landlord give am quit notice. The man say im want use the house for im son wey dey come back from abroad. But the way e take do am, no warning, no nothing. Just one letter wey im push under the door.

My brother, in the eyes of the court, a landlord cannot just wake up one morning and eject you. The law says if you don carry the property by force, you get right to proper notice. For Lagos, na 7 days for monthly tenancy, one month for yearly. But even after the notice, the landlord must go to court to get an order. He cannot just change the locks or pack your things outside. That one na self-help and the court no gree.

I tell the tenant say make im gather every evidence of payment, every text message, every receipt. And make im don't leave the house until the court say so. If the landlord try any nonsense, im go meet oga judge and e go hear am. The law dey protect tenants wey dey pay their rent. Na only the ones wey no pay wey suppose fear. But even for them, there is process. The question be say, how many people know this their rights? How many go fit stand for court when the landlord bring in the big men?
