Adeleke Beats APC Again, Osun Rejects The Old Order
3 months ago
Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has won the Osun State governorship election, defeating the APC candidate Oyebanji with 511,067 votes to 444,815. INEC announced the result on Sunday morning at the collation centre, bringing a decisive end to a tense race.
The margin of over 66,000 votes is significant, and it shows that the people of Osun were not swayed by the so-called federal might or the noise from the ruling party. The ADC candidate managed 17,180 votes while the AAC got 1,458, so this was essentially a two-horse race that Adeleke ran away with.
What strikes me is the turnout: only 1,010,684 accredited voters out of 2,339,544 registered. That is less than half, and yet the result still speaks clearly. Osun has chosen dancing over stagnation, and I am curious to see how the APC in Abuja will try to spin this one.
