Tinubu must explain the $3 billion NNPCL refinery money, not congratulate us twice
3 months ago
Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has called on President Bola Tinubu to explain how $3 billion was spent on the Port Harcourt refinery in 2024. Speaking on the Morning Show last Friday, Rufai tore into the government's inconsistent claims about the refinery's revival. He pointed out that on September 26, 2024, President Tinubu congratulated the NNPC on the successful revitalisation of the Port Harcourt refinery, but now the president is saying it will work again. That means it never worked in the first place, and the $3 billion may have been wasted or mismanaged.
Rufai's exact words were: "I don't want to be dramatic, but Nigeria will make you mad as a human being. If you try to see what the government does in this country, you will go mad." He went further: "As of the 26th of September 2024, President Tinubu congratulated the NNPC on the successful revitalisation of the Port Harcourt refinery. Today the president is saying the same refinery that he extended his congratulations on, will work again. So it didn't work when he extended his congratulations? You see, they have made this country a joke."
This is the same government that keeps telling us fuel prices will drop once the refineries start working. We have been hearing this story since 2021, and all we get is more subsidies removed and more hardship. Somebody in that administration knows where that $3 billion went, and it is not the Nigerian people. President Tinubu, as the father of the nation, must give a full account of that money before we hear another word about refineries coming back to life. How many more billions will we pour into a project that keeps failing?
