I Slept With My Landlord's Son to Pay Rent. He Never Even Knew.

Back in 2022, I was 24 and just finished NYSC in Kano. I was living in a small room in Sabon Gari, and the rent was 180,000 naira. I had no job, no family money, and the landlord's son, Musa, was always around. He was 32, quiet, and I knew he liked me. One evening, he came to collect rent and I told him I didn't have it. He said he could help, but there was a condition. I knew what he meant. I didn't even argue. I just let him into my room and closed the door. It was not sweet. It was quick, awkward, and I kept staring at the ceiling. He gave me 50,000 naira and said he would talk to his father about the rest. I took the money and washed myself. I cried that night, not because I was forced, but because I had chosen it. He never brought it up again. He was just doing me a favour, I think. But I carried that shame for months. I paid the rest of the rent with money I borrowed from a friend, just so I could look him in the eye and say 'I don owe you anything.' Omo, the lesson I learned is that the body can survive many things, but the mind remembers everything. I am not proud of it, but I am not broken either. I just know now that no rent is worth that silence in your head. God will always make a way, even when the way looks impossible.
