Dino Melaye alleges APC spent N70bn to buy Osun votes and still lost
3 months ago
Dino Melaye has alleged that the All Progressives Congress spent about N70 billion to purchase votes in the Osun State governorship election, and the figures he quoted are frankly staggering. In a Facebook post on Monday, the former lawmaker claimed the APC spent that enormous sum only to secure 444,816 votes, plus whatever rigging they attempted.
According to Melaye, the real lesson from Osun is that many people collected APC money but still voted according to their conscience. He wrote, "Nigerians must learn from Osun election where APC spent a whopping 70 billion naira only to procure 444,816 votes plus rigging. The implication is that more people collected APC money and voted for their conscience. 2027, collect APC money and vote your conscience. APC till we meet again."
Now, I am not one to take every allegation at face value, but if even half of that figure is true, we are talking about a party that believes it can simply buy the will of the people. The question that should trouble every Nigerian is this: if N70 billion can be thrown at vote buying in one small state, what is being planned for the 2027 general elections, and who is really funding this madness?
