🎖️CorporalThe day I nearly lost my reputation over a forged land title

Back in 2005, a widow came to my chambers. Mrs. Adeyemi. Her husband just died, and his brother was trying to take the family land in Ikeja. She had papers, she said. I looked at them. They looked proper. Seal, signature, everything.
But something itched. The signature on the deed didn't match the one on the marriage certificate she showed me. I called a friend at the lands registry. Turns out, the document was fake. The brother had forged it, using a family friend who worked in the registry.
I had to tell her. She broke down. I thought she'd be angry at me, but she just said, "I knew it. That man never liked me."
We went to court anyway. The judge saw through the forgery. She kept her land. But I learned that day: the law is only as good as the paper it's written on. Always verify. Always.
