Two years ago, I pooled my savings with two friends to import a container of phone accessories from China. We were young, hungry, and ready to conquer the world. We sent our money to a clearing agent we found through a friend of a friend. The container landed in Lagos, and then... nothing. The agent stopped picking our calls. The container vanished into thin air.My partners turned on me. They said I planned it all, that I was the one who introduced the agent. I swear on my mother's life, I knew nothing. I lost friendships I had built for years.Three months later, I found out the agent had fled to Ghana with several other people's money too. The police caught him eventually, but the damage was done. The trust we had was gone forever.That experience taught me something valuable: never put all your eggs in one basket, and always verify who you're doing business with. Trust is good, but verification is better. I now do background checks on every single person I work with. No exceptions.
