So the news just drop say inflation don fall to 15.43%. My first reaction was to laugh. Not because I don't believe am, but because my pocket never get that memo. I went to buy suya yesterday at my usual spot in VI, the same quantity wey I been dey buy since last year. The price don nearly double. I asked the guy, 'Abeg, inflation don drop, why your price still high?' He just look at me like I dey mad and say, 'Oga, na the meat wey expensive, not the numbers.'

That got me thinking. The data suggests that the headline number is just one dimension of the story. What matters is the real inflation wey we face daily, the one for food, transport, rent. That one no dey drop. My own calculation: if the price of garri don rise by 40% but the official rate say 15%, somebody dey lie. And it's not the NBS wey dey lie, na the market wey no dey follow the script.

But here's the thing, my guys. We all know say the real inflation is the one we feel for our pockets. The official number is just for the politicians to celebrate. I just wonder, when last you buy something and the price actually made sense?
