Landlord sealed my shop over N50k rent, I took him to court and won

See ehn, I dey tell you, many people dey suffer for this Lagos because dem no know dia rights. Last month one of my tenants, small girl wey dey sell provisions, come cry to me say her landlord don seal her shop because she owe two months rent. The woman don pay am before but the man just collect money and still seal the place.

I tell am make she calm down, say the law is on her side. In the eyes of the court, you cannot just seal somebody's shop like that without a court order. The landlord don commit what we call self-help, and that one is not allowed. The proper thing na to issue a quit notice, then go to court to get an order of possession. You cannot just enter somebody's shop and carry their goods, no matter how much dem owe you.

I help her file a case at the Ikeja High Court, and the judge ordered the landlord to open the shop and pay damages. The man don learn his lesson. My brother, if you get landlord wahala, know your rights. The law protects you, but if you no know am, you go suffer. Who don ever get this kind treatment before?
