Last year, I teamed up with my best friend from NYSC, Chinedu, to start a small event planning business. We were doing everything together, sharing costs, sharing contacts, the whole vibe. Then a big Lagos wedding came through, and the client loved our proposal. The money was sweet, I won't lie. But as soon as the advance hit, Chinedu started acting funny. He stopped returning my calls, changed the project details without telling me, and at the event, he introduced himself as the sole planner. I was there, standing in the corner, watching him take all the credit. The client even thanked him for 'doing it all alone'. I didn't cause a scene, but as soon as I got home, I cried. Not because of the money, but because I trusted this guy with my hustle and he made me look stupid. The worst part? He later sent me a message saying, 'Sorry, the client wanted just one contact person.' Shey you dey mad? You couldn't tell me that before? I learned my lesson that day: never mix friendship with business without a written agreement. These days, I sign contracts even with my own shadow.
