Burna Boy and Tems Get VMA Nods, But MTV Just Killed Afrobeats Category , Make It Make Sense

So MTV scraps the Afrobeats category they created just three years ago, yet our own Burna Boy and Tems still find their way into the nominations , Burna for a World Cup song with Shakira and Tems for an R&B track with Dave. Nobody should be celebrating this as a win; it's a backhanded compliment that says our music only counts when it's dressed up in someone else's genre. If they can't even keep a category for the sound that put Nigerian music on the global map, how is this anything but a quiet demotion?
