Tinubu's 2027 campaign begins with reforms that are crushing us
3 months ago
The 2027 election campaign has officially kicked off and President Bola Tinubu is facing what Al Jazeera is calling a reform test. This is the moment where his economic policies, the removal of fuel subsidy, the floating of the naira, all of it gets put before voters who have been feeling the pain for three years now.
I have said it before and I will say it again, these reforms were necessary but the execution has been brutal. Inflation is eating salaries, transport costs have doubled, and the average Nigerian in Kano or Enugu is not asking about GDP growth, they are asking how they will feed their family tomorrow. Tinubu's team will campaign on long term gains but the people are living in the short term and it is short term that decides elections.
What worries me is that the opposition will not offer real alternatives, they will just say 'vote out the pain' and that might be enough. The President needs to show concrete wins before the campaign heats up, not just promises. Am I the only one that thinks this election is already lost for him unless something dramatic changes in the next few months?
