2027 campaign don start but una never learn from 2023?
The campaign for the 2027 presidential election officially kicked off yesterday, and I have been watching the reactions with a mixture of amusement and weariness. Before we even discuss the candidates, let us remind ourselves that this is August 2026. The election is still well over a year away, yet here we are, already being fed the same promises and the same theatrics that we swallowed in 2023. It is like a Nollywood sequel where the script is identical, only the actors have changed their costumes.
What strikes me most is the lack of new ideas. The same names are being floated, the same regional calculations are being made, and the same ethnic arithmetic is being deployed. I am not naive, I know politics is about interests, but at some point, we must ask ourselves if we are a nation or just a collection of voting blocs. The youths who came out in droves for Peter Obi in 2023 are still hungry, still unemployed, still frustrated. And what have they been offered since then? More of the same. We keep recycling the same faces and expecting a different result, which is the very definition of madness.
I am not saying the opposition has no point. The economy is in shambles, insecurity is rampant, and the cost of living has made life unbearable for the average Nigerian. But until we start demanding concrete policy blueprints instead of empty slogans, we will continue to be disappointed. The 2027 election is not going to be won by hashtags or by online noise. It will be won by the person who can convince the market woman in Onitsha and the farmer in Katsina that their lives will actually improve. So I ask you, be honest, are you ready to be fooled again, or will you demand more this time?
