Plateau Attack Survivors Describe House-to-House Killings
2 months ago
Survivors of the attack on Bin-Per community in Kombun District of Mangu LGA, Plateau State, say more than 25 people were killed on Tuesday night when heavily armed militants, over 100 of them, went from house to house, slaughtering victims and setting homes ablaze. In a video circulating on social media on Thursday, victims described how the attackers, who spoke Fulani, seemed to know exactly which households to target.
One woman, who lost six members of her husband's family, said, "They would enter a house, call the names of the people they wanted, and if the people were not around, they would go in, bring out whoever was inside and kill them. Most of their victims were women, children and elderly people who could not escape in time." Another survivor, who lost her husband, his two brothers and three cousins, said she only survived because she had gone to Panyam to tend to her sick sister. She added, "It's only God who will console the people."
This is the kind of horror that should not happen in any community. How many more families must be shattered before we ask serious questions about security in this country?
