N15trn Saved From Subsidy Removal But Where The Money Go?

M

Taiwo Oyedele, the Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, said yesterday that Nigeria saved about N15 trillion from the removal of the petrol subsidy over the last two years. That is a massive figure, one that should fund schools, hospitals, and roads if properly managed.

But here is the question many Nigerians are asking: if we saved that much, why does the economy still feel this harsh? The savings are supposed to cushion the impact on ordinary people, yet transport costs and food prices have not come down. The government says the money is going into infrastructure and other projects, but the average person on the street is yet to feel the difference.

This is the kind of figure that sparks debate. Do you believe the N15trn savings are real, or is this just another government calculation that does not translate to better living conditions?
